As the Worcester Red Sox prepare to re-take the field for their second season we are checking out Polar Park and the rest of the “Heart of the Commonwealth”
Polar Park isn’t the only new kid on the block. Located in the heart of Kelly Square Worcester public market houses 36 local food and retail vendors. So this is cool. You came out for the day. Dominik. Mercurio Jr is the executive director of the Worcester Public Market and also runs new England burger bar with Al Meikle. Every one of their burgers is named after one of the seven hills of Worcester plus kelly square. Pretty cool. But Mercurio’s says the public market offers more than just good food. It offers people a chance to get their businesses off the ground. It’s really neat because it’s kind of a breeding ground or an incubator for new business owners. So for example, 36 vendors in this building, 26 of them are minority owned and women owned and fair prices allow customers to try something new. It’s basically to introduce and respect all the cultural diversity that already exists here. We’re just paying homage to it. We’re just paying tribute to it. We’re just giving you examples of it. Tonight, Anthony Everett checks out the stadium and discovers other new developments putting Worcester on track to come back stronger *after* the pandemic, including the traffic “peanut” in Kelly Square and the new Worcester Public Market, home to more than 30 food and retail vendors including One Love Ma Maebell’s Cafe (Jamaican beef patties, anyone?) and local leather company, Alan James Co.
