SUDBURY, MA — Two longtime local state lawmakers will return in 2022 to run for new terms, but will oversee new parts of the region after the 2021 redistricting process.

State Rep. Danielle Gregoire (D-Marlborough) and state Rep. Carmine Gentile (D-Sudbury) both confirmed this week they will run again in 2022. Gentile has been in office since 2014, and Gregoire since 2012 — she first won the seat in 2008, and then lost in 2010 to a Republican before winning it back in 2012.

So far, no other candidates have filed to run for either Gentile’s 13th Middlesex seat or Gregoire’s 4th Middlesex seat. The filing deadline is at the end of May.

Gregoire’s district has shifted east and now encompasses almost all of Marlborough and a chunk of northern Framingham approximately between Hemenway Elementary and Callahan State Park.

Gentile previously represented a small part of Framingham (Precinct 3) around Saxonville. His district has shifted north to include all of Sudbury, northeast Marlborough, Wayland approximately north of Route 126 and parts of Lincoln and Concord.

Framingham is undergoing perhaps the biggest change in state House representation in the region. The city now has four state House districts, with state Rep. Jack Lewis, who is also running again 2022, covering most of the city north of Route 9 (plus all of Ashland) and outgoing state Rep. Maria Robinson with the southern part of the city. Gregoire and the new 19th Worcester District cover the city’s northwest corner.

The 19th Worcester District covers almost all of Callahan State Park and a few neighborhoods between the park and Route 30. Westborough Democrat Kate Donaghue and Southborough Republican Jonathan Hostage have both filed to run for the seat, which mainly covers Westborough, Northborough and Southborough.
