Norman R. Carver, Sr., age 91, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Helen S. (Stecchi) Carver with whom he enjoyed 70 years of marriage.
He was born in Lawrence on July 25, 1930 and was the son of the late Norman and Adeline (Ducharme) Carver.
Norman was raised in Lowell and was a graduate of Lowell High School with the Class of 1949, where he played football. His team advanced to Mississippi for the championship game. It was in high school that he met the love of his life, Helen. After high school, Norman proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He worked for 30 years for the Department of Corrections until his retirement in 1991. He held several roles, advancing to Deputy Commissioner of the MA Department of Corrections. Norman was a voracious reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and sudoku. A history buff, he was a member of the Dracut Historical Society and also dedicated his time to coaching little league baseball. He loved playing golf and enjoyed his morning coffee and donut. Norman was a regular handy man and took great pride taking care of his home. He took annual trips to Aruba for over 20 years, where he would collect shells and turn them into beautiful keepsakes such as lamps and bracelets. He will be remembered as a loving family man who cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife, Norman is survived by his children, Dawn Jubinville and her husband Roger, and Norman Carver, Jr. and his wife Samantha; his grandchildren, Sara Shea and her partner William DaRocha, Nicholas Carver, and Seth Jubinville and his wife Corey; his great-grandchildren Ava, Rylee, Andrew, Lucas, Caden, and Lily; his sister in-law, Janice Stecchi; his nephews, David, who is also Norman’s godson, William, and Joseph Stecchi; and his goddaughter, Katie Racicot.
In addition to his parents, Norman is predeceased by his brother-in-law, David Stecchi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 3rd at 11am at St. Marguerite D’Youville Church, 1340 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, LOWELL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul at ssvpusa.org or Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Lawrence, MA 01843. The family would like to acknowledge Daniele, Norman’s hospice nurse, for the care and compassion she showed during this difficult time.
