A devout Catholic, successful engineering executive and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Robert “Bob” Mattei passed away peacefully on April 3, 2022, at the age of 73. He left this world at the Cornerstone Hospice Care Center in Ocoee, FL.

A triplet (along with sisters Jean and Diane), he was born and raised in Boston, MA, where he served as an altar boy in the Catholic Church; this duty instilled in him a lifelong faith. In 1970, he graduated from Lowell Technological Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, laying the groundwork for an incredibly accomplished career.

Bob, also a military veteran who served in the Army National Guard, believed in giving back. His selfless nature meant that he always put his family first and gave generously to charities, such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

He married his wife, Karen Mattei, on August 6, 1988, and their union lasted 33 years until Bob passed away. They settled together in East Sandwich, MA, where they had two sons, Anthony and Christopher. In 2019, they relocated to Florida for their retirement years.

Bob had a unique relationship with each of his sons. With Anthony, the two bonded over Italian cooking and baking. With Christopher, the two bonded with various home-improvement projects and electrical-engineering concepts. Anthony and Christopher meant the world to Bob.

Bob excelled in his career as an electrical engineer and industry executive. He was renowned in his field across the U.S. and Canada, working for large corporations including Stone & Webster, WRMS Engineering, Calpine, and TransCanada.

Throughout his career, he provided oversight to some of the nation’s top engineering companies, where he managed large portfolios of power-generation technologies, including solar, wind, natural gas, coal, and nuclear energy stations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Bob had extensive knowledge across all project execution phases: Development, engineering, design, construction, commissioning, and operations. Bob’s rare experience and talent was always in-demand, and he was often called upon as a subject-matter expert within his respective field.

As his career evolved, he went on to run a successful consulting business where he provided project, engineering, and construction-management services to large corporations.

In his free time, Bob could be found enjoying the outdoors: Be it fishing, sailing, playing basketball, or working on home-improvement projects. Bob was also a talented cook, particularly when it came to Italian food. He crafted from scratch the finest Italian meatballs, San Marzano pasta sauce, and mouth-watering chicken parmesan. He also deeply enjoyed spending time with his family and friends whenever possible.

Armed with a keen sense of humor, Bob had a sarcastic wit and loved to joke with people, always leaving them laughing. Intelligent, logical, and extremely hard-working, Bob’s main priority in life was making sure his precious wife and children were taken care of, and he supported them in everything they set out to do.

Bob is survived by his wife: Karen Mattei; his two sons Anthony Mattei and Christopher Mattei; his stepdaughter Jenica Racine; his stepsons Jeremy Racine and Dana Racine; his three grandchildren Isabella Brooks-Racine, Isaac Racine, and Genevieve Racine; his two sisters, Diane Gibelli and Jean Dolan; and his best friend, Tom French, with whom he worked very closely with over the course of his career.

Bob was a family man whose achievements were many. Positivity, incredible success, and love are his legacies, and his time on earth will echo in the hearts of those who held him dear.

Private funeral services will be held.
