People gather at the Peace Bridge to protest COVID-19 mandates on border travel
BUFFALO N.Y. (WIVB) — A movement involving Canadian truckers who are protesting the vaccine mandate is picking up steam locally as hundreds gathered Saturday by the Peace Bridge to push back on the mandates on border travel.
“The ultimate goal right now, for everyone that’s here, is for the mandates to be gotten rid of. They were needed at one time immediately, but they’ve been overused and extended beyond belief. They’re not needed,” said Frank Kolemann, who was born in Canada but now lives in Buffalo.

Getzville and Ellicott Creek Fire departments team up for ice and cold water rescue training
AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — Firefighters in Amherst are taking advantage of the slightly warmer weather conditions and recent rain to conduct ice and cold water rescue training.
Three stations were set up along the semi-frozen pond on Muir Lake in Amherst. The first was a dive station, where Getzville and Ellicott Creek firefighters went below the ice with breathing equipment. The second required firefighters to rescue while sliding out on the ice. The third was a rescue from the shoreline.

State Police: Suspect dies after being shot by trooper in Buffalo following pursuit
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — According to State Police, an investigation is ongoing into a Saturday morning incident in which a suspect died after being shot by a State Trooper following a pursuit on interstates 90 and 190.
Police say the State Trooper, a 14-year vet, suffered minor injuries in the incident and is being treated at a local hospital.
