Ellen Marie Regan
September 12, 1936 – December 30, 2021
Springfield – Ellen Marie (Reardon) Regan, 85-years-old, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 30, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Ellen was born on September 12, 1936, in Lawrence, to the late Charles and Gertrude Reardon. She attended Lawrence High School where she met her future husband, Timothy F. Regan, Jr. (deceased 2006). She attended Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, MA, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1958. She married her high school sweetheart, Tim in 1959.
She was the heart and soul of the family and raised her seven children through multiple moves and hundreds of sporting events. Ellen was the consummate teacher working in special education her entire career until she retired in 2011. Her love of children and reading permeated every part of her life and she loved nothing more than reading to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a life-long fan of her beloved Red Sox and could recite box scores for all of Major League Baseball (MLB). She was an avid sports fan that followed all teams from baseball to hockey and mostly her grandchildren’s many sporting events. She was active in her Holy Spirit Widow and Widowers group and many other local church groups. Ellen loved her Saturday hikes at Lake Accotink with her friends and never turned down an opportunity to enjoy time with loved ones. Ellen was also known for her homemade pies that were second to none.
Ellen is survived by her seven children: Kathleen Regan (Sabine), Timothy F. Regan, III (Kristin), Sean Regan (Lori), Colleen Regan (Mike), Mary Maver (Alan), David Regan (April) and Erin Kernal (Todd); and by her 14 grandchildren: Megan Lewallen (Kevin), Ashley Havey (Michael), Sarah Tremblay (Josh), Ian and Maggie Maver, Katie and Zach Kernal, Wryan, Luke, James, Jeff and Noah Regan, Teague (TFR IV) and Delaney Regan; and great-grandchildren, Rory and Sloane Tremblay.
A private family funeral will be held on January 22, 2022 at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to All Ages Read Together (AART), WAMU or simply take the time to read to a child today.
