DARBYSHIRE, Susan E. Devoted Wife, Advocate And Friend Ms. Susan E. Darbyshire, 62 of Danvers, beloved wife of John Carrigan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading, surrounded by her loving family. Susan lived a full and fruitful life including the last 16 years as she courageously battled ovarian cancer. Born in Amesbury, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Rachael (Scott) Darbyshire. Raised and educated in Amesbury, Susan was a graduate of Amesbury High School and of the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth where she received her bachelor’s degree in art. Susan embarked on a long and distinguished career in graphic design. She thrived in the creative and competitive world of design both as a freelance designer and as designer, and creative director at Hallmark Cards, Salem State University, Light Speed, Fidelity Investments, Compugraphics, SITEC, HCPro, Zinc, and the Gold Group. She retired in August 2021 to pursue her many creative interests. Susan expressed her creativity in her basketry, photography, love for typography, and the many other crafts and arts she enjoyed. She was active in Turning the Tide Ovarian Cancer Retreats supporting sharing her journey and support with others diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She was a member and past treasurer of the Friendly Garden Club of Beverly, where she lent her eye for design and her keen organizational skills. Susan loved the outdoors especially walking with her husband and dog (Dixi) along Wingaersheek Beach in Gloucester. She will be forever remembered for her zest for life, her competitive and creative spirit, and her love and support for her family and many dear friends. Surviving Susan in addition to her loving husband with whom she shared 42 years are her sisters, Carol Frost and her husband Lee of Amesbury, Paula Michaud and her husband Gerry of Farmington, NH, and Eileen Darbyshire of Amherst; her nieces and nephews, Johnathan Frost and his wife Megan of Cheshire, CT, Sara Darbyshire of Lowell, Lisa Darbyshire of Northampton, Jeffrey Frost of Beverly, and Brian Frost and his wife Katie of Auburn, NH; and many dear friends and colleagues. ARRANGEMENTS: A Celebration of Susan’s Life and creativity will be held on May 7, 2022, at the Danversport Wedding and Event Center in Danvers, Massachusetts. Susan directed that it be an informal gathering for friends and family to share her creativity and life. Please check the funeral home web site in early April for details.
